Open positions

Senior Fermentation engineer / Scientist

We are looking for a full-time Senior Fermentation Engineer / Scientist to join our Technology organization in Kaarina, Finland.

MetGen is a biotechnology company designing and supplying industrial enzymes and biotech solutions. We serve multiple sectors including, but not limited to, paper, packaging, and renewable chemicals and materials. A common theme throughout these sectors is our mission to empower the industries to get more value out of natural resources.

Additionally to pioneering new technologies for more efficient and integrated biorefining towards sustainable chemicals and materials, MetGen is also an industrial enzyme producer. It is with this in mind, we are looking for a seasoned engineer or scientist who could join our team of professionals in developing the fermentation technologies from lab to larger scales and industrializing the new-to-the-world enzymes. In other words, to make audacious ideas work and have all sorts of engineering fun.

The main focus will be on optimizing fungal fermentations for maximal productivity and cost-efficiency. This will require a deep understanding of the fungal systems, but even more a capability for practical and market-oriented process development and optimization. The aim is to make the end-user satisfied with the technical performance and economics of the enzymatic products.

MetGen utilizes various bacterial and fungal strains. This work is mainly oriented in the scale-up and optimization of new fungal production strains.

Selected person will:

  • Provide technical leadership in process design and engineering at the pilot and industrial scale
  • Work together with cross-functional teams with the common objective to industrialize and commercialize the new enzymatic products and fermentation solutions
  • Drive the development of the technologies, pilot plant, and industrial production capabilities
  • Participate in the development of new technologies and related downstream processes such as on-site manufacturing
  • Provide analyzed and refined information to the stakeholders in the form of presentations, reports, and continuous communication.

Skills and Requirements:

  • Degree in biochemical engineering, microbiology, or a related discipline with 5+ years of experience in the industry or commercial company.
  • Expertise in all aspects of industrial enzyme manufacturing using fungal strains
  • In-depth understanding of process development, including concepts of modern biorefineries
  • Experience in genetics, bacterial strains, and working with manufacturing organizations is a bonus
