Job Summary:

We are looking for a full-time Senior Scientist to join our R&D team in industrial enzyme development projects.

Senior Scientist will

  • provide technical leadership in enzymology and protein engineering, manage associate scientists and scientists, and lead projects that improve the performance of industrial enzymes
  • create vision and strategy on how to discover, produce in a suitable host, with the state of the art genetic tools and with performing fermentation technology and downstream to succeed in the mission.
  • Contribute to the company’s intellectual property portfolio and scientific publications. Present at internal meetings, external conferences, and meetings with outside partners/collaborators

Skills and Requirements:

Ph.D. degree in biochemistry, molecular biology, or a related discipline with several years of industrial experience in engineering enzymes

Expertise in all experimental aspects of enzyme technologies, including enzyme discovery, protein library design and screening, enzyme kinetics, and enzyme assay development.

Experience in the use of bioinformatics methods, protein structural analysis or modeling.

In-depth understanding of strain development, including industrially relevant bacterial and fungal strains.

Project Manager is involved in projects and gather information, handle reporting to stake-holders, create analyses and documentation materials. While project work constitutes the main share of day-to-day business, the other part is made up of actively driving MetGen’s operations by producing materials to support sales and contributing to the company’s development activities. In the beginning of the career at MetGen, Project Manager will receive support from our more experienced staff, and will be mainly guided by the CTO. Pro-active and self-driven managers will benefit most from a continuous learning experience.

This job involves paper, paperboard, and packaging testing in a Tappi standard test lab. We use Tappi standard test methods and customized test methods. The normal work hours are 8am – 4:30pm, 5 days per week, with flexibility regarding hours. The position reports to the Lab Manager. Successful completion of related tasks requires an interest in and basic-level training for working in a lab environment independently. MetGen is an international work place where getting along with several other people working in the lab is a requirement and a bonus. Computer skills needed include use of MS Excel. People most likely to thrive in this environment are comfortable handling details and following prescribed procedures. They also need to be able to interrupt long projects to handle short term projects, and then return to the longer term project.

Prior experience in paper testing or paper industry would be a significant attribute. MetGen performs tests on various types of pulps and laboratory sheets. Experience with these materials would be a significant benefit.  For a person without relevant experience an evaluation and training period of 4 months would be expected.
